Frequently Asked Questions
What is Dolo?
Dolo is an app that let you see stuff that people post around you. You can just eavesdrop, or you can react, comment, or create your own posts for others to see. It’s all about the here and now, so this way you can learn about the cool surprise popup down the street, or start an impromptu dance party in the park, or just ask if there’s a long line at your favorite bakery.
Do I need to have friends already on here? Do you connect to my social networks?
Nope. We’re the social, without the network. We don’t think all conversation needs to be with people we already know or are already connected with. So easy to miss out on a lot of cool stuff this way! So we’ve brought it back to the basics. Like in a bar or at a baseball stadium. You post and anyone around you can react or comment. And vice versa. And you can high five and move on, or you can decide you might want to make a new friend out of it.
Do I need to create a profile to use the app?
Not really. You can eavesdrop to your heart’s content without having to create a profile. But, most of the fun stuff (reacting, commenting, posting, the MASKS!) will require you to create a profile.
What’s this mask thing?
We know that it’s not always easy to chat with people you don’t necessarily know. So we decided that everyone on Dolo would get a masked profile to allow for a bit more privacy and comfort. That doesn’t mean that we are a completely anonymous app. In fact, we hope that you will have fun with your identity on Dolo, and create for yourself a cool reputation over time. Folks can still see what you’ve posted when they visit your profile, and when you decide you like or trust someone enough to take it to the next level, you can add them as a friend and the masks come off. You will then learn more about each other and get closer to becoming best friends ever.
Who can see my unmasked photo and other bio info I have on my profile?
When you accept a Friend request, or another user accepts your Friend request, then you can both see each other unmasked. This includes your profile pic, but can also include other information you decided to add to your profile, such as first and last name, your short bio, or even links to your other social network profiles.
Who can see my posts?
Anyone who’s using the app could technically see your post. In most cases, they would have to be close to where you originally posted. They could also see your posts regardless of distance if they are following you, or are Friends with you, or if you’ve tagged your post to a specific location that they follow.
Can I post anything?
Most conversation is good conversation! That said, help us keep the experience appropriate for everyone: be respectful of others in your posts and contributions, don’t post abusive, sexist, racist, or lewd content, and please don’t spam people. Check out our Community Guidelines at doloapp.com/help/community for more on all this.
I heard you say I’m the boss of the posts I create. What does that mean?
If you create a post, we give you the power to decide what goes and what doesn’t in it. You can delete any comment that you don’t think furthers the conversation you want to have. And if a user is getting really annoying in your posts, you can easily block them. Finally, as the boss, you will get notified if people report comments made in your posts – up to you to decide if they’re appropriate or inappropriate. That said, we will also take a look every now and then just to make sure everything is still in line with our Community Guidelines (doloapp.com/help/community).
I’m going out of town for the weekend but I want to keep up with a conversation even if I’m not close to it. What can I do?
Easy, just follow it. You can follow specific posts, or people, or places, and this way you can take them with you wherever you go. This way, you can always check in on cool stuff you’ve discovered in the moment.
Can I change my profile pic or my mask?
Of course you can. Just go to the Profile tab and into Settings, and from there you can choose the option to edit your profile.
I want to have a conversation that is not for everyone to see.
All posts on the main feed are public and available for everyone to see. That said, if you have started discovering some cool peeps and want to start a private conversation, just message them (individually or as a group). You can manage these private conversations in the Inbox tab.
I love this app. Can I tell others about it?
Nah we kinda like it small and cozy around here. Just joking! Yes, please spread the word. You can share specific posts to your favorite social networks, or you can text or email the links to your friends. You can also easily share screenshots of fun stuff you’ve come across. Finally, you can also go to Settings and use our easy “Invite Friends” feature to tell your posse to join this party.
Some posts or some users are annoying me. What can I do about that?
We’re sorry to hear that. There are a few options. First, you can hide any post you don’t want to see again by simple swiping it left or choosing Hide Post from that post’s options menu. You can also report a post or a comment if you think it’s inappropriate; just choose the Report Post option from that same menu. Finally, if a user is repeatedly posting stuff you don’t want to see, you can either report that user if you think they’re violating our Community Guidelines, or you can choose to personally block the user. When you block a user, you will not see most of each other’s activity on the app, and can no longer message each other. You can always unblock users under Settings.
I just saw some pretty inappropriate content. What are you going to do about that?
Please help us keep this fun and appropriate for everyone by reporting the post or comment in question. Just tap the Options menu for the post or comment and select the report option. We have built a number of different ways to protect the experience and will look into reported content as fast as we can. Our decisions will be informed by our Community Guidelines
Who can react or comment on my posts?
Anyone who has created a profile can technically react or comment on any post. There are some exceptions: if the post has expired or if you have blocked the user, for example.
Looks like I can’t create a profile because my phone number or email address is already being used by another account.
Please let us know by emailing [email protected]. A phone number or email address can only be linked to one account, so we’ll be happy to look further into your specific case.
What can I do if a user is using my registered trademark as a username?
I have an issue that is not answered here. What do I do?
Just email us at [email protected] with a description of your issue and we’ll get to it as soon as we can.
